We inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. Our teaching equips pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, explore diversity and develop perspective and judgement.

We have high expectations for all children and use scaffolding and differentiation to ensure all pupils, including SEND pupils, can access our curriculum.

We understand that History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. At JRS, History is taught chronologically from the Stone Age to World War II ensuring that pupils understand that time periods overlap and are not ‘set blocks’.

Through our teaching at JRS, we aim to ignite a love of learning about History that will see our pupils through to secondary school and hopefully beyond!
